People behind the project Developers: W. and H. Joubert; Legal: Bell, Dewar and Hall; Town Planner: Derick Peacock Associates; Contractors: Kashane Building & Construction; Site Approval and Ecology: Environmental Outsource cc.; Wildlife: World Wildlife Services & Mabalatu Management Services; Fishing: Endorsed by the Machadadorp Fishing Club; Marketing: Coral Palm Limited Upmarket Development Development on Doornkop is restricted to 65ha (approx. 3%) of the 2000 ha reserve. This limitation means that Doornkop will not become urbanised and will ensure a restful natural ambience. At full capacity the nett density on the conservancy will approx. 1 person per 8ha. The entire property has been game fenced and is being returned to nature. Invasive plants such as Wattles along drainage lines are being cleared by the Working For Water program and used for firewood by the resort. These activities will improve stream flow, rehabilitate natural assets such as waterfalls and increase species diversity as well. Caves and old prospecting mineshafts have been set aside as shelters and sanctuaries for species such warthogs, bats and owls.
Natural beauty abounds at Doornkop Development Plan The development plan has allowed for a total of 60 stone and thatch units (timeshare chalets, syndicate cottages and outright ownership houses), a club house with recreational facilities, a small conference venue and staff housing to be developed on the 65ha allocated for development.
