Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve is fully game fenced and is currently stocked with 15 species of non-dangerous large mammals in accordance with a professionally recommended stocking program.

A number of other species of indigenous mammals have been recorded in the reserve. These include Brown Hyena, Jackal, Caracal, Civet, Porcupine, Bushpig and Aardvark. Leopard have been reported in the area. In addition many species of small mammals also occur at Doornkop. Game is under the care and ownership of World Wildlife Services who are experienced wildlife experts. Game viewing can be enjoyed on foot, mountain bike, horseback or open top vehicles.

Only approved vehicles are allowed on the designated self-drive roads. Outright owners are encouraged to purchase their own open top vehicles for game viewing. No quad bikes are allowed.

Birding is both interesting and exciting with 203 species recorded for the area which is transitional between the highveld and the lowveld. The Doornkop bird list currently stands at 118 species. Raptor sightings include the Black eagle and African Fish eagle. Watercourses and dams increase the diversity of birding habitats on the property.
