THE ENVIRONMENT
TERRAIN
The
topography of the estate is rolling grassland hills, bisected by the
Kareekraalspruit running from north to south and the Valleispruit running from
west to east. The rivers converge on the property and go off a 125m waterfall on
the southern boundary to join the Crocodile River. The eastern boundary of the
estate is defined by the Steenkampsberg plateau with the escarpment falling away
to the east, that overlooking the Kwena Basin Conservancy.

ECOLOGY
Development of the estate will occur primarily on the western slopes of the
valley that bisects the property from north to south. The eastern slopes will be
left undisturbed and carefully managed to ensure that the rich bio-diversity of
both flora and fauna is retained. All three species of the critically endangered
Crane are regularly spotted in the area and a Bald Ibis breeding colony resides
in the cliffs on the southern boundary.
A variety of wildlife occurs on the property, including Duiker, Bushbuck and
Vaal Ribbok. A wildlife management programme is to be implemented as part of the
estate operation to ensure the viability of existing and introduced wildlife
populations.
ARCHAEOLOGY
A variety of Late Iron Age sites have been identified on the property and have
been incorporated into the layout of the development. These sites will be
carefully preserved and managed as part of the estate.
