The site is situated on approximately 40
hectares of coastal forest reserve on the seaward side of a primary dune and a short distance away from Lake Sibaya, one of the largest freshwater lakes on the sub-continent. Sibaya is separated from the Indian Ocean by a narrow strip of coastal dune. Its blue water and white sands, with numerous natural bays and inlets, provide an outstanding aesthetic environment that has the potential to host a vibrant tourism industry.
A thin strip of tropically forested land separates its fresh waters from beautiful and deserted beaches, where it is possible to swim, snorkel, scuba dive or sunbathe in isolated splendour. This northern section of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park (National Park) includes virtually all the natural assets for which St. Lucia is renowned, including exceptional diversity, remarkable scenery, the largest estuarine system on the African continent and superb game viewing.
The site is suitable for the development of an upmarket international 100-bed lodge that would cater primarily for the discerning Eco-Tourist. Due to the fantastic location of the site the lodge should be conceptualised to cater for the international luxury tourist market. Of primary importance is the right to utilise the site for beach launch purposes thereby gaining access to the marine reserves pristine scuba dive sites, the second only access of its kind within the reserve.
